| ''I take pictures of people having sex and call it art'' |
Samantha Wolov began her art career at the age of sixteen months when her mother would line the shower walls with paper and allow her to finger-paint murals in the bathtub.
Even today, Wolov still has the inclination to make art in some state of undress.
After a brief and very unsuccessful stint as an oboe player in elementary school, Wolov, at the suggestion of her father (himself an amateur photographer), and the encouragement of her mother, decided to move towards visual arts.
Wolov is a self-taught artist, having only taken one photography class for a semester in high school. She has been featured in several shows, including in the Fraser Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Stage Gallery in New York. She was a winner in Nerve Magazine’s first Emerging Photographer Competition. She won Best in Show at the 2005 National Competition at the Washington Gallery of Photography, received seven Honourable Mentions from the Annual Lucie International Photographic Awards, and curate her own erotic photography projection installation in May 2005. Wolov received her B.A. in Art History in 2005 and plans to take dirty pictures as long as people are willing to get naked for her.
Wolov would like to dedicate this site to the memory of her father, Robert, who would have probably enjoyed joking about his daughter, the pornographer, and to her mother, Beverly, who has been incredibly supportive and kind, even though her daughter has seen more penises than she would care to admit.
Wolov would also like to thank her boyfriend, Jacob Burnim, for his sense of humour and generosity, even through 3:00 a.m. phone calls and tales of photo shoots with other naked men, and Peter Blau, for not raising his eyebrows too many times. |
