| Dior Fall/Winter 2006-2007 Collection |
Christian Dior is a name that spells seduction, creativity and femininity in luxury goods, haute couture dresses, and retro chic style. John Galliano has made a name for himself being an outrageous, outlandish designer, and this collection typifies his reputation for flamboyance. The gown is a spellbinding work of art, and it's interesting the way Galliano has made the two arms so radically unlike each other, one arm being left bare and the other largely covered in fragments of reflective armour. In terms of cut, it's not particularly innovative, but the fact that it doesn't seem to fit with anything else in the collection gives it a feigned freshness. The algae-like metallic colour palette with hints of gold is stunning.
Christian Dior is known mainly for the look, which employed narrow shoulders, a constricted waist, an emphasized bust, and long, wide skirt, all in striking contrast to the severity of wartime fashions. His designs represented consistent classic elegance, stressing the feminine look. The New Look revolutionized women's dress and re-established Paris as the center of the fashion world after World War II. The Dior firm—led by designers Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan and John Galliano, and continued to be a fashion leader and was associated with a much wider range of merchandise, including men swear, household linens, and such fragrances as the critical and popular success, widely considered a classic scent. |
