| Valentino Women's Collection Spring Summer 2011 |
At once magnetic and mysterious, she has an unmistakably contradictory allure that is elusive and destabilizing. She appears magical, a projection of lights and shadows, a silent apparition who takes form and then dissolves into space. She is defined by vibrant, moving overlaps of textures, transparencies and shades, by a contrasting sensual and aggressive interplay.
The woman of the Valentino Spring Summer 2011 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli is a contemporary romantic who from morning to night wears elaborate reinventions of the chemisier. Ruches and flounces, folds and embroideries, pleated or frilled constructions all add movement to the dresses, which are developed in a variety of materials and in long and short styles. Adorned with light toned layers of lace in raffia or crin, liaisons of the finest Chantilly and macramé, ton-sur-ton floral and polka dot applications in relief, contrasting details of ribbon collars and leather carré, the dresses are transformed into a trompe l'oeil ensemble of skirt and shirt and made three-dimensional by fine see-through organza, tulle or chiffon layers in shades of ivory, cocoa and cinnamon.
Tightly-woven pieces of lace in raffia and silk interact in suits with form-fitting jackets, in overcoats and in short, flared jackets with cuts emphasized by charming ribbon closures and frothy hems with flounces. These alternate with delicate, crisp nylon on short skirts and shorts, creating a winning crossover between technology and couture. Extraordinarily feminine, the ankle-length models with evening trains resemble ultra-fine, delicate drawings, watercolors of exquisite tones.
Holograms and sunny images expose the garments' construction and make the precious lace, tulle and organza embroideries pop, transforming the dresses into evanescent sensations, an emotional experience for the eyes. |
